Purim Megillah Reading and Shpiel
Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 7:00 pm
One of the most enjoyable holidays for everyone is Purim, which celebrates the time when the Jews living in Persia were saved from an evil plot to exterminate them. The Greenburgh Hebrew Center celebrates the joyous holiday of Purim with an outrageous carnival and megillah reading and shpiel.
Sunday, March 4 begins with a megillah story told by Rabbi Kenter and Cantor Janet and costume parade for families with young children at 10:00 am.
At 10:30 am the festivities continue as our famous Purim Carnival kicks off. The carnival features game booths for all ages, a Super Slide, Noahs Ark, Arts and Crafts, Purim Jeopardy, cotton candy, Shushan Food Court, prizes and more!!! Our talented and creative Youth Group decorates for the Carnival and lends a hand throughout the event to add to the fun!
From Noon – 12:45 pm: Musical entertainment by Matty Roxx (he is a high energy, interactive entertainer)- perfect for families with young children
At 12:45 pm – 1:30 pm: Purim Project Runway – competition – the GHC Religious School classes of grades 5,6, and 7 compete for the best designed costume!
Cash and Checks accepted for all Carnival activities, games, entertainment and food court.
All are welcome!!!
The holiday of Purim begins with the Megillah reading on Wednesday, March 7, at 7:00 pm. The theme for this year’s Shpiel is “Elvis”. All Purim attendees – children and adults - are encouraged to dress up like Elvis or a related character! Our very own Laurence Holzman, a professional lyricist and playwright, has teamed up with (also our own) Andy Goldstein, the funniest MD in all of Westchester County, to create an enjoyable and hysterical Purim shpiel which will be presented during the evening. The Shpiel will be fun, festive and filling (because Hamentaschen will be served, of course)!
The Greenburgh Hebrew Center is located at 515 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, NY.
