Purim Costume Parade and Family Megillah Reading - Sunday,  March 20, 2011

One of the most enjoyable holidays for everyone is Purim, which celebrates the time when the Jews living in Persia were saved from an evil plot to exterminate them. In the Book of Esther, Mordechai tells us that Purim is to be observed as “days of feasting and gladness, and sending delicacies to one another, and gifts to the poor” [Esther 9:22], and Greenburgh Hebrew Center takes this admonition to heart. We have a tradition of selecting a theme for our Purim celebrations.

The theme for this year is “Tony Awards”. All Purim attendees – children and adults - are encouraged to dress up as you would for the Red Carpet at a star-studded event. Feel free to use your imagination, and perhaps come dressed as paparazzi!!

Our program for the evening service and Megillah reading and our Purim Schpiel (Red Carpet at the Tony Awards Theme) begin on Saturday, March 19 at 6:30 pm. It will be fun, festive and filling (because Hamentaschen will be served, of course)!

On Sunday March 20, at 9:45 am, there will be a program for families with young children, followed by a costume parade. At 10:30 am  the festivities continue as our much anticipated Purim Carnival kicks off. We are thrilled to announce that the dynamic “Sunny the Clown” will be performing her shows at 11:30 am and 1:00 pm, and also mingling with kids and adults during the carnival.  The carnival features game booths for all ages, a Super Slide, Noah’s Ark Inflatable Maze, cotton candy, food, prizes and more!!! Our talented and creative Youth Group decorates for the Carnival and lends a hand throughout the event to add to the fun!

All are welcome!!! Free on-site parking is available.

The Greenburgh Hebrew Center is located at 515 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, NY.
