Greenburgh Hebrew Center (GHC) proudly announced that it has hired Gloria Smith as its new Early Childhood Director. With more than 30 years experience in education, Ms. Smith most recently served as the Assistant Principal at the Charter School of Educational Excellence. Before that, Ms. Smith spent 14 years at a New York City public school, first as a first grade teacher, then as Staff Developer for Kindergarten through 2nd grades, and finally as Assistant Principal and Universal PreK Supervisor. Ms. Smith, a Bronx native, began her career as a temple preschool teacher in Rockland County.

“Early childhood education is about channeling children’s innate curiosity about the world around us through creative and multi-sensory experiences,” said Ms. Smith.  “I look forward to building on the strong and nurturing foundation already in place at GHC to help young children grow and develop socially, academically and physically, and to prepare them for kindergarten and beyond. For me, education is not only my career, but also my passion.”

In this position, Ms. Smith will be manage GHC’s Early Childhood program – including parent-toddler programs, preschool for 2s, 3s and 4s, after-preschool programs, parent-child programs, and synagogue programs for young families.
