Debbie Erdheim - Religious School Director
Debbie Erdheim begins her fourth year at GHC and her third year as Religious School Director.
Born a first generation American to holocaust escaping parents, Debbie’s Jewish identity was instilled in her by her parents who lost several members of their families as a result of the Holocaust. After graduating Herbert Lehman College with a degree in Anthropology and Education, Debbie worked for several non-profit organizations in the area of Human Resources, and became the Director of a large Nursing Home in Bronx County. Debbie then left the work force to raise the first of her two children.
When Debbie returned to the work force, she sought employment in early childhood education. She has worked for the past 25 years at Temple Beth El in Spring Valley New York, first as a Nursery School Teacher and for the past 17 years, in their religious school. Debbie has also worked in several Hebrew Schools in Westchester and Bergen counties.
Debbie is an award-winning teacher, having won an award for Teacher Creativity, given by CAJE in Rockland County, for her portrayal of a Model Jewish Wedding.
Inspired by her children’s studies, Debbie entered an adult Bat Mitzvah class at Temple Beth El, and became a Bat Mitzvah in front of many assembled guests, including her childhood Rabbi.
In addition to her work in the Religious venue, for many years Debbie worked with learning disabled children at the Pearl River Middle School.
Debbie is married to her college sweetheart, Steven and they are the proud parents of two children Wendy and Daniel. Wendy recently made Alyiah in 2013 and resides in Jerusalem with her husband Rafi. Her son Daniel graduated Medical Student and is a second year resident at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dan’s career goal is to be an Anesthesiologist.
