IMPATIENTLY
AWAITING SHAVUOT
The season of our getting the Torah
I
love to get presents.
I like to unwrap them,
to take off the ribbon,
and the paper,
to look inside the box
and see what I got.
I like to get books,
to open them up
and look at the pictures
and the colors,
and the words,
and to feel the book in my hands.
And I say a really big thank you
to whoever gave me the book.
They smile and are happy.
On Shavuot,
we tell the story
of how we got the Torah as a present.
We open the wrapping,
take off the ribbon,
and open the Torah to the place
that tells us about the first time we got
such a special present.
We read the story,
roll up the scroll,
tie it up,
put in back into its wrapping,
so we can unwrap it
and read it again
and again
and again.
We say a big thank you.
and then we sit down to
read the book
again.
